Dallas, Beaumont Physicians Elected Top Officers of TMA Board

TMA NEWS RELEASE — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) Board of Trustees elected Dallas cardiologist Richard Wesley Snyder II, MD, as chair and G. “Ray” Callas, MD, a Beaumont anesthesiologist, as vice chair. Each will serve a one-year term in his board office. Dr. Snyder was reelected to the TMA Board of Trustees during TexMed, the association's annual conference this year.

Dr. Snyder served as the board’s vice chair last year, and previously served as board secretary since joining the TMA board in 2015. He also was a member of the TMA Council on Legislation. Locally, he served as Dallas County Medical Society (DCMS) president in 2012. He has been a DCMS delegate to the TMA House of Delegates, TMA’s policymaking body, since 2005, and serves on the county society’s Community Emergency Response Committee. Dr. Snyder is chair of ASPEN, a specialty independent physician network, and past president of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. He has practiced at Medical City Dallas Hospital since 1996 and is president of HeartPlace, the largest independent cardiovascular group in Texas.

Dr. Callas has served on the board since 2017. He is a former chair of both the TMA Council on Legislation and the TMA Council on Constitution and Bylaws. He serves on the board of directors of TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee, and on the TEXPAC Candidate Evaluation Committee. He’s also served as a delegate to the TMA House of Delegates since 2004 and on the Texas delegation to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) House of Delegates, AMA’s policymaking body. Dr. Callas also is a past president of the Jefferson County Medical Society and is a member of its board of directors.
