The American Muslim Women Physicians Association (AMWPA) Merit Award is offering three $1,000 scholarships to honor academic achievement and community service.

The scholarships, administered through the Texas Medical Association, are available for any female students who are U.S. citizens enrolled in and attending any Texas medical school. The scholarships are one of the ways AMWPA fulfills its vision to promote the health, welfare, and education of women.

Roshni Mandania, a fourth-year student at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, received a 2020 AMWPA scholarship.

"I wish to carry out my passion for additional service projects and global health initiatives focused on cardiac disease prevention in underserved areas starting with El Paso,” Ms. Mandania said in her application essay. “With the help of this scholarship, I can be better prepared to make a difference."

Scholarship applications are due April 19. Along with the application, applicants must provide an unofficial transcript, and submit a 300-word essay describing where she sees herself in five years in the field of medicine and in community service.

For questions about the scholarships, email Azalia Perez, coordinator in TMA’s office of educational loans.
