The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted and at times exacerbated mental health struggles for physicians and other health care professionals as well as patients. The Texas Medical Association’s Physician Health and Wellness (PHW) PlugIns provide resources to help you care for yourself while you’re caring for patients.

The plugins offer a variety of toolkits, complete with links to related CME courses, inventories/exercises, and checklists and planning guides.

The toolkits focus on ways to improve:

Also look for the PHW Stress and Burnout Self-Assessment, which can help you identify unhealthy work environments. Once you’ve completed the assessment, you’ll find resources to help you manage situations and behaviors that result from day-to-day stress.

The plugins also offer a comprehensive guide to other modules, surveys, and resources available from other organizations.

In addition, TMA’s Committee on Physician Health and Wellness offers 23 CME courses (available for ethics credit) about healthy eating habits, setting boundaries, and more. As part of your TMA membership, these ethics CME courses and hundreds more are available at no cost to you, compliments of TMA Insurance Trust.
