Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, organized medicine has stressed the importance of wearing masks in public as an effective way to stop the spread of the disease.
As cases spike again throughout the state, the Texas Medical Association and four other members of the Texas Health Care Industry Strike Force on COVID-19 are reinforcing the call to wear masks through a new public service announcement campaign entitled “Texas Strong.”
The campaign is centered on television ads narrated in English by Grammy award-winning musician Lyle Lovett and in Spanish by singer-songwriter Lisa Morales.
The ads, which will air on stations across the state, highlight the strength of Texans coming together as a community to stop the spread of COVID-19.
“The members of the Texas Health Care Industry Strike Force have dedicated their careers and, in some cases, their very lives to protecting and improving the health of all Texans," said David Fleeger, MD, TMA immediate past president and chair of the Texas Health Care Industry Strike Force on COVID-19. “In the here and now that means mask up, wash up, and physically distance.”
You can help spread the Texas Strong message by posting reminders for Texans to wear masks to your social media accounts using the hashtag #MaskUpYall. The ads also are available on YouTube – in English and Spanish – for you to share on social media.
Texas Strong was developed by Austin-based agency GSD&M for the five members of the strike force: TMA, the Texas Hospital Association, Texas Nurses Association, Texas Association of Community Health Centers, and Teaching Hospitals of Texas. The full strike force is composed of state health departments, health care associations, and academic institutions.
