Blue Cross Prior Authorization Manager Changing
By Ellen Terry

1.26 interstate billing

Starting Jan. 1, AIM Specialty Health will manage certain outpatient prior authorizations for some Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) patients in these plans: Blue Choice PPO, Blue Essentials and Blue Essentials Access, Blue Premier and Blue Premier Access, Blue Advantage HMO, MyBlue Health, and the new Blue High Performance Network

The following care categories (and procedure codes) that currently require prior authorization will not change with this transition: advanced imaging, cardiology, sleep medicine, pain management, joint and spine surgery, radiation therapy, and genetic testing.

Note that Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans are not included in this transition to AIM.

In addition, the AIM Radiology Quality Initiative program for Blue Choice PPO members will continue for members who do not require an advanced imaging prior authorization.

If you don’t have an AIM account, create one using the AIM ProviderPortal or by calling (800) 859-5299.
