Make A Difference in 2020: Donate to TMA’s Hard Hats for Little Heads Program

Every year, donations made during the Texas Medical Association Foundation annual gala to TMA’s Hard Hats for Little Heads bicycle helmet giveaway program help reduce head injuries among Texas children.

Although this year’s gala was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, you can still “Make a Difference” in the lives of Texas youth by donating to the program.

Hard Hats was created in 1994 at the recommendation of a TMA member who recognized the power that TMA and TMA Alliance members have when they join together to keep Texas children safe.

Since 2012, a generous TMA and Alliance member couple have annually matched donations to the program dollar for dollar up to $10,500 – a campaign called “Make-A-Difference.”

Your donation to the campaign this year will ensure that volunteer TMA/Alliance members and their community collaborators have the helmets and educational tools to ensure little Texans ride safely.

Helmets are distributed at community events hosted by TMA physicians, Alliance members (spouses and partners of physicians), and Texas medical students. During the events, children and their parents learn how to properly fit and wear a helmet and are asked to sign a pledge card signifying they will wear it every time they ride.

Hard Hats community events include bike safety rodeos, school fitness competitions, and health and safety fairs. They frequently are held in collaboration with schools, churches, civic groups, nonprofit youth groups, fire/police/EMS, and others.

Find more information, including how to donate and how to host an event, on the TMA website.
