As a physician, you most likely know what you’d advise people who’ve been exposed to COVID-19: Isolate yourself from others, get tested, and consult your physician if symptoms get worse.

But a lot of patients might not know exactly what they should do if they’ve been exposed to the illness, especially if they do not show symptoms.

That’s why the Texas Medical Association COVID-19 Task Force has created a decision tree to help people understand what to do if they have been exposed to COVID-19.

The chart, which is also available in Spanish, explains what steps to take if patients show or don’t show symptoms.

Information on the chart includes:

  • What to do if someone tests positive or negative;
  • An explanation of a false-negative test;
  • A description of COVID-19 symptoms; and
  • Information on when people are contagious.

The chart is one of several documents TMA has created to help people stop the spread of COVID-19, including a risk-assessment chart, and a log for tracking symptoms.

The documents can be found on the TMA COVID-19 Resource Center, which is updated daily with information, tools, and tips for patients, physicians, and other health care professionals.
