TMA, Local Hosts to Vaccinate Area Children This Summer

 July 23, 2020

  • WHAT: Uninsured and underinsured area children (and adults in some locations) can get free and low-cost vaccinations now and into September to prevent harmful and potentially deadly diseases. The hometown shot clinics planned for here and several other Texas communities will allow families to catch up on vaccinations missed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and help prepare kids for the return to school. The Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) Be Wise – ImmunizeSM program supports efforts by local hosts to provide vaccinations.

  • WHEN: July 27-Sept. 11, 2020 (See schedule below.)

  • WHERE: Your community and others across the state (Conroe, Fort Worth, and Houston areas)
  • WHO: Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County (ICTC), Lone Star Family Health Center, Spring Branch Community Health Center and The Well Health Center, along with TMA physician, TMA Alliance (organization of physician spouses and partners), and other volunteers; and uninsured/underinsured area residents

Event attendees are advised to follow safety recommendations, including social distancing and mask wearing.

The cost is $8 per shot. Cash, check, CHIP, and Medicaid are accepted as payment. Please bring shot record. (Children who have health insurance that covers vaccines should see their physician.)

Adult Safety Net Program vaccines for adults (19 years and older) with no health insurance also will be available for $15 per vaccine. Please bring shot record.

Houston-area event details: The event is open to children aged 4-18 years who have CHIP or Medicaid, or who are not covered by health insurance. Free vaccines will be provided by appointment. Be Wise – Immunize has given more than 390,000 shots to Texas children, adolescents, and adults since the program began in 2004. It is funded in 2020 by the TMA Foundation, thanks to major support from H-E-B, and generous donations from physicians and their families and other donors whose gifts create a Healthy Now and Healthy Future for more Texans.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 53,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans. TMA Foundation, TMA’s philanthropic arm, raises funds to support the public health and science priority initiatives of TMA and the family of medicine.
