Improve Your Health Systems Science Curriculum

Do you have a significant responsibility for implementing a curriculum related to topics such as health care quality, population health, or team-based care at your institution?

Perhaps you already teach those courses.

Or maybe you anticipate being responsible for and/or teaching them in the future.

If so, you might benefit from the American Medical Association’s Health Systems Science Scholars Program.

The program, a collaboration of the AMA and the AMA Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium, goes in-depth in how to design, implement, and evaluate your institution’s health science curriculum.

“Health systems science,” according to the AMA, “includes improving health care quality, increasing the value of care provided, enhancing patient safety, delivering population-based medical care, working collaboratively in teams, recognizing the socio-ecological determinants of health, and understanding health care policy and economics.”

The 12-month program will include a two-day faculty development workshop – scheduled for December in Chicago – taught by health systems science experts who will also serve as program mentors.

If you want to be a part of the program, you need to act soon. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, Aug. 29.

Applicants must be supported by their department chair or dean, and must be nominated by their principal investigator.

You can find registration information – including instructions, frequently asked questions and a copy of the application –on the AMA’s website.
