Prepare for Hurricane Season With Facebook Live Discussion

Harvey_Houston

If you haven’t seen, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) earlier this month said that it predicts above-normal hurricane activity this season, which ends Nov. 30.

That means more physicians could be called upon to care for patients in affected areas either in the immediate aftermath of a storm or in the months after.

And as you know, hurricanes can create major health problems beyond what the wind and water cause directly. These include physical ailments, like worsening asthma and allergies, as well as mental health issues, such as increased depression or anxiety.

If you want to get a head start on what this year’s hurricane season could bring, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will hold a Facebook Live talk at 12:15 pm (CT) on Aug. 26.

Officials from the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) will discuss:

  • Past Texas hurricane season experiences;
  • What to know about the Texas hurricane season; and
  • Steps Texans can take to be ready for and recover from hurricanes.

To tune in, visit the Facebook pages of the GLO or DSHS.
