Gender-Neutral Insurance Rates = Big Savings for Women Physicians

Gender_Insurance

Long-term disability insurance helps replace your income if you become ill or injured and can’t work for a prolonged period. Top-rated insurance companies in Texas have traditionally charged women more for individual disability insurance than they do men, largely because of prior claims experience.

The number of female physicians continues to grow in Texas and across the country; however, female  physicians looking for more attractive long-term disability insurance rates are often at a disadvantage. Unfortunately, higher rates can make disability insurance seem too expensive, leading physicians to purchase inadequate coverage, or forgo protection entirely.

To help Texas Medical Association members get the income protection they need, the exclusive TMA Member Long Term Disability Plan, issued by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, uses group rates that aren't based on gender. Female physicians may find these gender-neutral group rates significantly less expensive than most individual disability plans available in Texas.

Enhanced Benefits

Plus, to help members save even more, TMA Insurance Trust has just introduced a 25% “Thank You” Credit on the TMA Member Long Term Disability Plan.

For female physicians, the credit means that the already gender-neutral premiums on the TMA Member Long Term Disability Plan will now be 25% lower*, which could mean thousands of dollars in savings over the life of the policy.

In addition to reducing the cost of the TMA Member Plan, the plan now features:

  • Streamlined application process using a disability application that is much shorter than industry standards.
  • Up to $10,000/month benefit with simplified underwriting for TMA members under age 50.
  • Up to $15,000/month benefit available.
  • Receive up to 20% additional benefit for covered catastrophic disability.
  • Annual opportunity to increase coverage up to age 45.
  • Cost of Living Adjustment option.
  • TMA members age 40 and younger who apply for coverage can receive up to a total of $250,000 of additional disability payments to help with student loan payments while they are unable to work.

Save on New and Existing Policies

The 25% credit applies to both new and existing enrollees; current enrollees will automatically receive the 25% Thank You credit, and members looking to purchase new disability coverage or add to existing coverage will also be entitled to the 25% Thank You credit.

Additionally, eligible TMA members with long-term disability insurance from other carriers can receive up to $4,000 per month of additional coverage from the TMA Member Plan. (Although most insurance companies will limit how much disability insurance can be purchased, qualifying TMA members can receive this additional coverage regardless of their income, and no matter the amount of disability coverage they have from other carriers.)
