Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) warns physicians to be aware of a scammer that is offering to help doctors become credentialed with the insurance company for $250.

“If you receive any correspondence asking you for money to be credentialed, do not proceed,” BCBSTX said in an alert

Credentialing with BCBSTX is free. The payer uses an outside contractor, Aperture, to manage credentialing, and any related correspondence will come from Aperture.

If you have questions about whether a credentialing communication is legitimately from Aperture, email BCBSTXCredentialing_CVO[at]bcbstx[dot]com.

You can find information about joining a network and credentialing in the Network Participation section of the BSBSTX website.

The Texas Medical Association’s payment specialists continuously review health care payment plans’ newsletters and updates for items important to Texas physicians. Texas Medicine Today periodically publishes key excerpts from those newsletters that you might have missed.

If you have questions about billing and coding or payer policies, contact the specialists at paymentadvocacy[at]texmed[dot]org for help, or call the TMA Knowledge Center at (800) 880-7955. TMA members can use the TMA Hassle Factor Log to help resolve insurance-related problems. Visit www.texmed.org/GetPaid for more resources and information.
