Hard Hats Program Promotes Exercise, Safety

Seeing a kid riding a bike is as much a sign of spring as the wildflowers that blanket the state this time of year. A great way to encourage kids in your community to get out and ride - and do it safely - is with a TMA Hard Hats for Little Heads bicycle helmet giveaway during Bike Month in May.

TMA is looking for new sponsors to try this easy-to-do outreach program. Hard Hats for Little Heads is available to TMA members, medical students, county medical societies, and members of the TMA Alliance.

For each event, TMA provides free helmets with a matching purchase based on the amount you buy. TMA provides educational materials in English and Spanish for added event success, including a video showing how to fit a helmet.

By focusing events during Bike Month, TMA can promote the statewide helmet giveaway effort to media outlets across Texas and encourage journalists to cover local Hard Hats for Little Heads events. Last year, we had 29 events during Bike Month. With your help, we want to have 40 events this year to show more kids the importance of exercise and safety.

To find out how you can bring an event to your community, e-mail  Tammy Wishard , TMA's outreach coordinator, or call her at (800) 880-1300, ext. 1470, or (512) 370-1470.
