Sample Letter to the Editor: National Immunization Month

For Use During National Immunization Month In August

When you're preparing to send your child back to school, don't forget one of the most important preparations: vaccinations. August is National Immunization Month, a perfect time to make sure your child's vaccinations are up to date.

Vaccinations are one of the most successful public health developments in history. With them, we've eliminated deadly diseases, such as small-pox and polio, in the United States. But we can't become too comfortable.

Vaccine-preventable diseases still exist in other countries - a mere plane ride away. And many diseases, such as whooping cough (pertussis) and meningococcal disease, still threaten our children's health. Through vaccinations, we can keep infections and diseases from reappearing or becoming epidemics here at home.

Vaccinations remain one of the safest, most-effective ways to protect our children. August is a perfect time to ensure your child is fully vaccinated. If you're not sure which vaccinations your child needs, check with your doctor.
