United Requires Imaging Accreditation

UnitedHealthcare now requires outpatient imaging sites and physicians that bill on a 1500 Health Insurance Claim Form (HICF) or its electronic equivalent to have completed and submitted an application to obtain accreditation as a condition for reimbursement for certain procedures. The requirement applies to CT, MRI, PET, nuclear medicine/cardiology, and echocardiography.

United says it recognizes the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards. You also can get information from ACR by calling (800) 770-0145 and from IAC by calling (800) 838-2110.
