Audiology Services No Longer Will Be “Incident to” Under Medicare

Beginning Oct. 1, 2008, all audiologists who provide diagnostic test services to Medicare patients must be enrolled in Medicare and bill Medicare directly using their own NPI. This applies to audiologists employed in a physician practice as well as independent practitioners; physician practices no longer will be allowed to bill Medicare for audiologist services as "incident to" a physician's service.

TMA encourages audiologists to start the Medicare enrollment process now to be fully compliant by Oct. 1.
