Little Elm Physician Reelected Vice Speaker of TMA House of Delegates

Little Elm internist John G. Flores, MD, was reelected vice speaker of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body. The house elected Dr. Flores during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference, held in Houston this year.

J.Flores_190“I am thrilled to be returning as vice speaker. It is an awesome responsibility, and I appreciate the house’s faith in me,” said Dr. Flores.

TMA hosted this year’s TexMed in person after holding a mostly virtual conference in 2021 because of COVID-19. Dr. Flores said he is proud of the work he has accomplished alongside TMA House Speaker Bradford W. Holland, MD, to help members gather again for face-to-face interactions.

“This year has tested my ability to be flexible,” he said.

Dr. Flores wants to ensure that delegates can participate in deliberations whether they meet in person or virtually. “I am very excited about the house getting back to live, in-person meetings but hope we don’t squander the knowledge and experience we have gained to interact virtually when appropriate,” he said.

He also wants the house to be more engaged in improving the professional lives of both independent and employed physician members.

Dr. Flores has held multiple TMA leadership positions, including serving as chair of the TMA Council on Socioeconomics and the TMA Council on Health Service Organizations.

Dr. Flores also serves as a TMA alternate delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA) and is secretary of the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section’s Governing Council. He also is a past president of the Denton County Medical Society.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Flores has practiced for 25 years. In 1997, he opened an internal medicine clinic in Little Elm, where his wife, Jill Ellen Wolf, MD – also an internist – joined him in 2003.

Dr. Flores earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School. He and his wife have been married for 19 years, and they have four sons.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 56,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
