COVID to Take Center Stage at Winter Conference

With COVID-19 dominating physicians’ lives, the General Session of the Texas Medical Association’s 2022 Winter Conference is the place you and your colleagues can get the latest on the COVID surge from Texas’ top public health care experts.

Running from 9 am to noon on Saturday, Jan. 29, the session will kick off with a COVID-19 Panel Discussion with Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner John Hellerstedt, MD, and Chief State Epidemiologist Jennifer Shuford, MD. They will address the statewide pandemic response, what physicians need to know about testing and treatment, and available resources. Donald Murphey, MD, chair of TMA’s COVID-19 Task Force, will moderate the discussion.

At 10:15 am, TMA’s Ask the Expert series will explore Employee Vaccinations with TMA Associate Vice President of Human Resources Sheri Williams and attorney Laura Goodson of DeShazo & Nesbitt, who will host an interactive session addressing potential legal ramifications related to COVID-19 and COVID vaccines in the workplace.

On a lighter note, at 11 am, check out Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer. Keynote speaker Steven Johnson, host of PBS’ TV series Extra Life, will discuss the major advancements in medicine over the past century that have significantly increased human life expectancy, while also exploring the types of innovation and activism that drive significant change in society.

Additional CME will be available on demand throughout the two-day conference. Sessions include:
