Get to Know the 2022 TMAF Gala Co-Chairs

The Texas Medical Association Foundation (TMA) annual gala fundraiser helps make TMA’s population health, science, and quality-of-care programs possible. And it’s a direct way for TMA members and their families to participate in the numerous initiatives around the state that have provided free health screenings to medically disadvantaged Texans, vaccinated underserved individuals, educated students with science-based learning materials, and more.

As an example of that engagement, Clifford Moy, MD, and his wife, Diane; and Carla Ortique, MD, and her husband, Judge Morris Overstreet, all of Houston, will serve as co-chairs of the Texas Medical Association Foundation’s (TMAF’s) 29th annual gala, Crossroads of Culture – Houston: The Most Diverse City in the U.S.

Dr. Moy, a psychiatrist, is treasurer of TMAF and chair of its Finance Committee. He also serves on the TEXPAC Board of Directors and is a former speaker of the TMA House of Delegates. He is the behavioral health medical director at TMF Health Quality Institute, based in Austin, and serves on the advisory committee for Inner City Catholic Schools in Houston.

Ms. Moy is a longtime active member of the TMA Alliance and serves on its Membership Committee and as the alliance representative to TMA’s Committee on Infectious Diseases. Along with her husband, she is an active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Houston.

“Few state medical associations have a philanthropic foundation that provides so many ways for members and their families to improve the health of their community,” said the Moys (pictured above). “We’re privileged to play a major role in helping TMAF reach its fundraising goal this year.”

Dr. Ortique is an obstetrician-gynecologist and vice president of the TMAF Board of Trustees, as well co-chair of its Grants Committee. She has held numerous leadership positions within TMA in areas related to women’s health care and elimination of racial and ethnic health care disparities. She is a member of TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health and a past chair of the Committee on Reproductive, Women’s, and Perinatal Health. Dr. Ortique also is vice president of the board of Every Body Texas (formerly Women’s Health and Family Planning Association Texas).

Judge Overstreet is a lifelong Texan and a highly respected criminal defense attorney. His career includes terms as first assistant district attorney of the 47th Judicial District; judge, Potter County Court at Law No. 1; and distinguished professor of law at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston. Following a gubernatorial appointment, Judge Overstreet was elected to the Texas State Court of Criminal Appeals, becoming the first African American elected to a statewide office in Texas.

“We’re extremely proud to serve as TMAF gala co-chairs, and help raise funds that enable even more funding for programs that expand access to care for all Texans and address health disparities,” said Dr. Ortique and Judge Overstreet, pictured below.

Individuals may sponsor a table at the gala starting at $2,500. Find more information and purchase tickets or a sponsorship on the TMAF website, or contact TMAF at (800) 880-1330, ext. 1664, or (512) 370-1664.
