Although it may not often seem like it, sometimes when physicians complain about an insurer’s policies and procedures, the health plan actually listens.

Such is the case with UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and access to its Optum Pay basic portal, which practices can use to manage claim payments and other digital administrative paperwork.

Starting this Saturday, May 22, Optum Pay basic will begin allowing unlimited users for each account.

Until now, only two users per organization have been allowed access to Optum Pay basic, a limit that Texas Medical Association staff says is problematic not only for large practices, but also for small ones that experience high staff turnover. According to TMA staff, UHC made the change following complaints from both physicians and practice administrators.

Optum Pay basic, which UHC offers at no cost, offers downloadable remittance information and access to 13 months of payment data, among other features. For more information, visit the Optum Pay website, contact Optum Pay’s Help Center at (877) 620-6194, or email Optum Pay.
