May 15, 2021

Little Elm internist John G. Flores, MD, was elected vice speaker of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body. The house announced his election during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference, held virtually in Austin.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated how far our state has come to improve the health care of Texans and yet how far it still has to go,” said Dr. Flores. “My involvement in TMA leadership has always been centered on creating and cementing relevancy for its members and improving the health of Texans in the process.”

Dr. Flores will work alongside newly elected TMA Speaker Bradford W. Holland, MD, to preside over the House of Delegates. Dr. Flores has held multiple leadership positions in TMA, serving as chair of TMA’s Council on Socioeconomics and chair of TMA’s Council on Health Service Organizations. He also co-chairs the Lone Star Caucus, an organization of smaller county medical societies, in TMA’s House of Delegates.

Dr. Flores serves as a TMA alternate delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA) and is secretary of the AMA Organized Medical Staff Section’s Governing Council. Dr. Flores is a past president of the Denton County Medical Society.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Flores has practiced for 24 years. In 1997, he opened an internal medicine clinic in Little Elm, where his wife, Jill – also an internist – joined him in 2003.

Dr. Flores is a medical school graduate of the The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Flores and his wife have been married for 18 years. The couple has four sons.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 55,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
