May 15, 2021

Lisa L. Ehrlich, MD, a Houston physician specializing in internal medicine, was elected to serve on the Texas Medical Association (TMA) Board of Trustees, the association’s governing body. TMA’s House of Delegates policymaking body announced election winners today during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference, conducted virtually this year.

Ehrlich “I am honored to have been elected to the TMA Board of Trustees,” Dr. Ehrlich said. “I hope to help foster a sense of unity, so that as physicians, we can begin again to speak with one loud voice to improve the lives of our patients and to protect our sacred profession.”

Dr. Ehrlich has a long history of leadership within TMA. She currently serves on TMA’s Council on Socioeconomics. Since 2004, Dr. Ehrlich is a board director for TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee. She previously served on TMA’s Council on Healthcare Quality and Council on Patient and Physician Advocacy. Dr. Ehrlich is a former American Medical Association delegate representing TMA’s Young Physician Section.

Dr. Erhlich says her call to service stems from her love of the medical profession and deep care for her patients. She aims to address the growing concern of health care quality as the health care system continues to evolve.

Dr. Ehrlich is a member and past president of the Harris County Medical Society (HCMS). During her time as president, she spearheaded efforts to provide day-to-day medical care for thousands of displaced Houstonians after Hurricane Harvey hit in 2017. She enlisted the help of entities like HCMS, Harris Health, federal support troops, pharmacies, and volunteer health care personnel to ensure hurricane victims had both immediate and follow-up care. Dr. Ehrlich also helped organize 24-hour mental health support, public health, pharmacy, dentistry, eye care, and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for people displaced by the storm.

Dr. Ehrlich is a board member of the TMF Health Quality Institute, which works with patients, physicians, health care providers, government agencies, and other groups across the country to promote high-quality health care. She also is actively involved with the American Board of Internal Medicine, by which she is board certified.

After graduating in 1993 from The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine, Dr. Ehrlich completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Her career has spanned more than 25 years in private practice.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 55,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA's key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
