San Antonio Physician Reelected to TMA Board of Trustees

Jayesh B. Shah, MD, a San Antonio physician specializing in undersea and hyperbaric medicine for 27 years, was reelected to the Texas Medical Association (TMA) Board of Trustees governing body. TMA’s House of Delegates policymaking body announced Dr. Shah’s reelection during TexMed, the association’s annual conference, held virtually in Austin.

“It is a great honor to be your Board of Trustees member during these unprecedented times,” Dr. Shah said. “I advocated on behalf of Texas physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic so that private practices can survive, can receive personal protective equipment, loans, vaccinations, and all the necessary support they need.”

Dr. Shah is board certified in internal medicine and in undersea and hyperbaric medicine. He is chief executive officer of South Texas Wound Associates, PA in San Antonio. He is an expert and educator in the field of wound care and hyperbaric medicine, having published three books on the specialty. He is an adjunct faculty member at both The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine in San Antonio. 

Dr. Shah was the president of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, a national organization representing 100,000 physicians. He is the immediate past president of the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine and past chair of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists. He is past president of the Bexar County Medical Society and the Texas Indo-American Physicians Society.

Dr. Shah received a bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery degree from Medical College Baroda in India, and completed an internal medicine residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center – Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. 

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 55,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
