Texas physicians and other health care professionals have represented the epitome of their professions throughout efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 over the past year. Unfortunately, hundreds of Texas health care workers have died while fighting the disease.

Texas will honor those physicians and health professionals with a special reading of resolutions and ceremonies at the Capitol on Tuesday, March 30 – which is also National Doctors' Day, an annual nationwide appreciation of physicians.

Texas Medical Association President Diana L. Fite, MD, will represent the state’s physicians during the ceremonies, which will take place separately in the House and Senate chambers.

“In this of all years, the Texas Medical Association believes dedicated physicians – and their equally dedicated health care colleagues – who died during the past year while caring for patients with COVID-19 deserve our utmost gratitude, respect, and admiration,” Dr. Fite said.

The Senate and House resolutions recognize the “unwavering integrity, commitment, dedication, and compassion” of Texas’ health care workers. They were sponsored by Sens. Dawn Buckingham, MD (R-Lakeway), Donna Campbell, MD (R-New Braunfels), and Charles Schwertner, MD (R-Georgetown); and Rep. Tom Oliverson, MD (R-Cypress).
