COVID-19 Vaccines Report: Eligibility Expanded to People 50 and Older

The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) hosts weekly meetings of the Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel (EVAP). Find details below and check this DSHS webpage for updates.  

  • Vaccine Eligibility Expanded to People 50 and Older: People 50 to 64 years old will be eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines starting March 15. "More than 93 percent of the Texas fatalities directly caused by the coronavirus have been in people 50 and older, with those ages 50 to 64 accounting for 20 percent of all fatalities," the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) said. Currently, physicians, health care professionals, anyone 65 and older or 16 and older with comorbidities, and school and licensed childcare providers are eligible to receive vaccines.   • Medicaid to Cover Costs of Administering Vaccines: Medicaid, Healthy Texas Women (HTW), the Family Planning Program (FPP), and Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program will pay physicians and practices for the costs associated with administering vaccines, Texas' Medicaid contractor has announced. Procedure code 0031A is a Medicaid and HTW benefit for physicians, health care providers and facilities using the appropriate place of service code, the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership said.
