TMA Minority Scholarships Help Diversify Texas’ Physician Workforce

The Texas Medical Association has long been committed to tackling health inequalities, which – as the COVID-19 pandemic has shown – remain a problem in Texas.

As part of that effort, TMA created the Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Program in 1998 to help diversify the physician workforce to meet Texans’ health care needs.

These $10,000 scholarships are for members of racial minorities that are underrepresented in Texas medical schools and the state’s physician workforce.

Applications are now being accepted for students who will enter medical school in 2021.

Applicants must be Black, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American incoming freshmen, must complete an application, and provide a letter of acceptance with the intent to attend.

If you or someone you know wants to apply, please do so online.

The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 25. The winning candidates will be notified in April 2021.

Find more information on the TMA website or via email.

TMA's 2021 Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Program is made possible with a grant from the TMA Foundation (TMAF) thanks to the TMAF Trust Fund of Dr. Roberto J. and Agniela (Annie) M. Bayardo; the TMAF Patrick Y. Leung, MD, Minority Scholarship Endowment; and generous gifts from H-E-B, TMA county medical societies, and physicians and their families.
