The evolving COVID-19 pandemic has been a time of incredible disruption in patient care, and neither the state’s economy nor physician practices are immune to the effects of this crisis.

As part of the Texas Medical Association’s commitment to giving Texas physicians the most up-to-date information regarding COVID-19, TMA and the Border Health Caucus will host a tele-town hall meeting on COVID-19 specifically for physicians caring for patients in the border regions of Texas.

Answer your phone at 7 pm (CT) today to take part in the tele-town hall meeting.

During this interactive, hour-long event, Texas physicians and experts will share an update on the Texas economy and its potential impacts on the next state budget, public health implications of COVID-19, and practice viability challenges facing physicians, including how to use telemedicine effectively, practice financial options, and Medicaid funding.

Scheduled speakers include:

  • Eva DeLuna Castro, fiscal and budget policy program director for Every Texan, on the state's economy and COVID-19's implications on the upcoming state budget;
  • John Hellerstedt, MD, Texas Department of State Health Services commissioner, on COVID-19 trends, testing capabilities, contact tracing, personal protective equipment, and reporting communication with Mexico;
  • Ogechika Alozie, MD, El Paso infectious disease specialist and a member of TMA COVID-19 Task Force, on use of telemedicine within your practice;
  • Mollie Mailman, TMA practice management consultant, on Small Business Administration loans and the Paycheck Protection Program; and
  • Doug Curran, MD, TMA past president, on Medicaid funding in Texas.

It will be co-hosted by Luis Urrea, II, MD, chair of the Border Health Caucus and Linda Villarreal, MD, TMA president-elect.

There’s no need to RSVP or register for this event. TMA will call the home telephone number on file in your membership records.

Remember, check the TMA COVID-19 Resource Center regularly for up-to-date news and the latest TMA materials for your practice.
