TMA Applauds Bishops’ Critical Care Guide Support

March 27, 2020

Statement by Texas Medical Association (TMA) President David C. Fleeger, MD, about the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops’ statement in support of Mass Critical Care Guidelines

“TMA applauds and thanks the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops for its timely and urgent statement of support for Mass Critical Care Guidelines. These are critical and difficult issues, and Texas must reengage in this conversation now. The bishops clearly understand the gravity of the situation facing physicians, hospitals, and health care providers in Texas and the patients we will care for in the days ahead. We welcome the opportunity to work with Gov. Greg Abbott on their request in the very near future.

“Additionally, as a Catholic physician myself, I personally wish to thank the bishops for their expediency.”

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 53,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
