DFW-Area Physicians to Represent Texas at AMA(1)

Eight Dallas/Fort Worth-area physicians were elected today to represent Texas doctors in the American Medical Association’s (AMA’s) House of Delegates, the national organization’s policymaking body. The Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) House of Delegates elected the physician leaders in Dallas during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference.

Dallas

John T. Carlo, MD, a public health and general preventive medicine specialist practicing for 15 years, was reelected as an alternate delegate.

John T. Gill, MD, an orthopedic surgeon in practice for 32 years, was reelected to serve as a delegate.

Robert T. Gunby Jr., MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist in practice for 44 years, was reelected as a delegate.

Steven R. Hays, MD, a nephrologist in practice for 35 years, was reelected as an alternate delegate.

Lyle S. Thorstenson, MD, an ophthalmologist in practice for 37 years, was reelected to serve as a delegate.  

All five Dallas physicians are members of the Dallas County Medical Society. 

Frisco

Bryan G. Johnson, MD, an internist in practice for 22 years, was elected as an alternate delegate. He is a member of the Collin-Fannin County Medical Society.

Keller-Roanoke

Gary W. Floyd, MD, a pediatrician in practice for 40 years, was reelected as a delegate. He practices in Roanoke and is a member of the Tarrant County Medical Society.

Little Elm

John G. Flores, MD, an internist in practice for 22 years, was reelected as an alternate delegate. He is a member of the Denton County Medical Society.

As part of the Texas Delegation to the AMA, the physicians will take policy adopted by the TMA House of Delegates forward to the AMA House of Delegates. In addition, they will advocate on the national level for Texas patients and physicians.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing nearly 53,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
