If you’re interested in how you can help combat the anti-vaccine movement, check out the Texas Public Health Coalition’s free, special event on Friday at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

Three panelists will discuss the rise of the movement in Texas, including the role of health professionals in stopping its misleading and dangerous messages:

  • Peter Hotez, MD, co-director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development;
  • Rekha Lakshmanan, director of advocacy and public policy for The Immunization Partnership; and
  • Umair Shah, MD, executive director of Harris County Public Health.

“The political battle over vaccine policy continues unabated in our state and in our nation,” said Coalition Chair John Carlo, MD. “Vaccine refusal, vaccine hesitancy, and vaccine confusion are major public health hazards. Vaccines save lives. This event gives us a high-profile opportunity to spread that critical message.”

A Conversation on Children’s Health and Vaccines, presented by the Texas Tribune, will be held from noon to 1 pm Friday, April 26, at the Houston Endowment Lecture Hall
at the Texas Woman’s University Institute of Health Sciences – Houston Center, 6700 Fannin St. in Houston. Doors will open at 11:30 am.

If you can’t make it in person, tune in the live stream on the coalition’s webpage.

Emily Ramshaw, editor-in-chief of The Texas Tribune, will moderate this event.

Register now to attend in-person, or add the livestream to your calendar.
