About 400 Texas physicians, medical students, and TMA Alliance members came to Austin on Tuesday to advocate for medicine face-to-face with state lawmakers during First Tuesdays at the Capitol.

About 200 medical students spent the early morning learning how to speak to lawmakers and being briefed on the bills and issues that are important to medicine. Meanwhile, the physicians and Alliance members – many of whom have participated in First Tuesdays for years – were at the Louis J. Goodman Texas Medical Association Building mingling and learning about the issues.

Many then made their way en masse to the Capitol before breaking into smaller groups to meet with legislators.

Since it began in 2003, the “White Coat Invasion” has been an effective way to ensure that our state lawmakers work to keep Texas medicine-friendly. Our senators and representatives listen when their hometown doctors appear in their offices.

TMA and the TMA Alliance encourage you to participate in the final First Tuesdays event of this session, which is set for May 7.

First Tuesdays are open to all physicians, alliance members, students, and their spouses.

Registration is $25, which is waived for students and residents.

If you need more registration forms or any other information, visit the First Tuesdays webpage, or call your county medical society or TMA at (800) 880-1300, ext. 1361.
