Pearsall Physician Begins Serving in TMA Leadership Role

October 30, 2018

Oscar Garza, MD, a Pearsall family physician in medical practice for 30 years, began serving on Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) Council on Health Care Quality during the recent TMA Fall Conference held just outside Austin.

TMA member physicians and medical students are appointed or elected to one of TMA’s 25 boards, councils, and committees. They are responsible for studying health care-related issues and making recommendations on important health care policy affecting Texas patients and their physicians.

The TMA Council on Health Care Quality establishes policy on topics surrounding quality improvement, such as performance-based measurements and value-based payment programs, and educates physicians about federal and state incentives to improve patient care. It also advocates for fair and sound quality improvement initiatives.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 51,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
