Help Prevent Unwanted Teen Pregnancies in the RGV

You know that intrauterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants, commonly referred to as long-acting reversible contraceptives or LARCs, are the most effective of all contraceptive options.

But you know who doesn’t know that?

IUD_LARCMost sexually active female teens. In fact, a little more than 8% choose this option, according to the latest National Survey of Family Growth.

And that’s where you can make a difference.

If you would like training on Nexplanon and IUD counseling, insertion, and removal, the Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is offering a free workshop Aug. 28 in Brownsville. The training will run in conjunction with the South Texas Adolescent Health Summit, scheduled for Aug. 28 and 29 at the Brownsville Event Center. You don’t have to attend the summit to participate in the workshop, organizers said.

Nexplanon_LARCThe summit will feature speakers, panel discussions, and presentations focused on increasing the knowledge, skills, and abilities among adults who provide services and support to adolescents on the Texas-Mexico border. 

CME hours for the summit will be provided by The Texas Department of State Health Services and Continuing Education Service.
