Medicare Payments Cut? Apply for a Reconsideration Now
By David Doolittle

CMS ApplicationSome Texas physicians will incur a 3-percent cut on all 2018 Medicare Fee For Service charges because the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services believes they did not participate in the meaningful use program, TMA has learned.

If you believe you are being penalized erroneously, you can submit a 2018 Payment Adjustment Reconsideration Application if you:

  • Participated in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program in 2016 and attested to your participation by March 2017; or
  • You filed a hardship exemption application by July 1, 2017.

Even if you did not participate in meaningful use or submit the hardship exemption, it never hurts to ask for a reconsideration.

Although the application states a deadline of Jan. 31, CMS has extended the deadline to Feb. 19.

Direct your questions about the incentive program, the penalty, or the application to TMA’s Health Information Technology Department by emailing hit[at]texmed[dot]org or calling (800) 880-5720.
