Houston cardiologist and former Texas Medical Association President Tom Garcia, MD, will speak on physician response to Hurricane Harvey and TMA’s fundraising efforts at a recovery symposium in Houston on Saturday.
The Recovery Empowerment Symposium: Emerging from the Storm will be “a united effort to help dentists, physicians, and veterinarians restore and return to practice,” organizers said.
Texas dentists, veterinarians, lawmakers, and others will speak on a variety of topics, including insurance, loss recovery, and behavioral health issues, organizers said.
The event is hosted by the Texas Dental Association (TDA) in partnership with Henry Schein Inc., a health care products and services distributor, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
The free event will be held 9 am to 3 pm Saturday at the Cooley Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry. It also will be streamed live.
More information — including details on registration and instructions for how to view the live stream or on-demand replay — can be found on the TDA website.
TMA’s Disaster Preparedness and Response Resource Center also has more information about Hurricane Harvey.
TMA’s Disaster Relief Program has received nearly $1 million to help physicians with uncompensated damage to their medical practices caused by Hurricane Harvey.
