Two Wichita Falls-area physicians have been selected for leadership
positions in the Texas Medical Association (TMA). TMA held elections and
appointments in conjunction with its TexMed conference and expo, held this year
in Houston. The physicians will begin their term of service at TMA’s Fall
Conference in September.
TMA leadership appoints or elects TMA physicians and medical students
to one of TMA’s 25 boards, councils, and committees. They are responsible for
studying health care-related issues and making recommendations on important
health care policy affecting Texas patients and their physicians.
Evan C. Meyer, MD, an emergency physician in practice for
four years, was elected to TMA’s Council on Health Service Organizations. The
council studies, makes recommendations, and takes action related to the
organization of and services provided by patient-care facilities, including
emergency departments; ambulatory surgery centers; hospitals; and skilled
nursing, long-term-care, assisted living, hospice, home care, and other

TMA is the largest state
medical society in the nation, representing more than 50,000 physician and
medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county
medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve
the health of all Texans.
