pathologist David N. Henkes, MD, was reelected to serve on the Texas Medical Association
(TMA) Board of Trustees, the association’s governing body. Dr. Henkes was elected
at TexMed, the association’s annual conference and expo, in Austin. He was
first elected to the TMA board in 2009.
“I am honored to
serve on the TMA Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Henkes. “In the next few years,
physicians will face more changes in health care policy and regulations. I will
continue to fight to ensure physicians have the clinical autonomy to select the
best care for their patients.”
Dr. Henkes is an
active and distinguished leader for organized medicine and Texas patients. He
has served on TMA’s councils on Socioeconomics and Legislation; has chaired TEXPAC,
TMA’s political action committee; and currently chairs the Texas Delegation to
the American Medical Association. In addition to his work within TMA, Dr.
Henkes is past president of the Texas Society of Pathologists and former
governor appointee to the Texas Radiation Safety Advisory Board. He also serves
on the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Medical Care Advisory
Committee and chairs the commission’s Physician Payment Advisory Committee.
Locally, Dr. Henkes served as
president of the Bexar County Medical Society. He is former chief of staff at
Santa Rosa Northwest Hospital and laboratory medical director for the Christus
Santa Rosa Medical Center Hospital in San Antonio. A graduate of The University
of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Dr. Henkes specializes in anatomic and
clinical pathology, and has been practicing medicine for 32 years.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing
more than 48,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin
and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA's key
objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
