TMA to Give Children Helmets in May - Bike Month

 May 1, 2014

  • WHAT: The Texas Medical Association's (TMA's) Hard Hats for Little Headsprogram will give away more than 3,000 free bicycle helmets in May - designated as Bike Month - to protect children from head injuries. TMA physicians and other volunteers will give Texas children free bicycle helmets at giveaway events across the state, and teach parents and children the importance of wearing a helmet, especially one that fits properly.

During 2014, TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads program is celebrating its 20th year of keeping kids safe. In that time, TMA members have given away more than 170,000 helmets and plan to give away 34,000 free helmets in 2014.
  • WHEN: May 6-31, 2014
  • WHERE: Communities statewide, including yours (see schedule below)
  • WHO: TMA physicians, medical students, TMA Alliance members (volunteers who are TMA physicians and TMA members' spouses), and county medical societies

Texas physicians urge Texas children to be active but want them to stay safe. Wearing a bicycle helmet is a simple way to prevent injury. Head injury is the most common cause of death and serious disability from bike crashes.

Below is a schedule of TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads events across the state. Look for one in your community.
