State Suspends Fluoroscopy Training Requirements

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) announced Jan. 13 that it will indefinitely delay implementing the radiation safety awareness training requirements for fluoroscopy guided interventional procedures, and will also consider modifying the training requirements rule for physicians. This move effectively stops the May 2015 deadline for hospitals to require 8 hours of radiation safety training for physicians who perform fluoroscopy.

Until further notice, registrants and users of fluoroscopy equipment will not be required to meet the training requirements set forth in the rule (25 Texas Administrative Code, Section 289.227(m)(9)E)).
