One in five Texans will get the flu this year. TMA's Be Wise — ImmunizeSM program encourages physicians to sponsor a flu clinic in October, in conjunction with Influenza Awareness Day on Oct. 1.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual flu vaccination for everyone older than 6 months. The flu can be especially harmful for older people, young children, pregnant women, and people with chronic medical conditions.
The Texas Legislature declared Oct. 1 Influenza Awareness Day to raise awareness of the health risks associated with the flu. If you need help funding an event, consider applying for a Be Wise — Immunize Local Impact Grant.
Start planning your flu clinic now. For more information, contact Tammy Wishard, TMA's outreach coordinator, by phone at (800) 880-1300, ext. 1470, or (512) 370-1470, or by email.
Be Wise — Immunize is a joint initiative led by TMA physicians and the TMA Alliance, funded by TMA Foundation through generous grants from H-E-B and TMF Health Quality Institute.
Be Wise — Immunize is a service mark of the Texas Medical Association.
