Statement by TMA President Michael E. Speer, MD, regarding U.S. Senate Republicans electing Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) as minority whip for the 113th Congress.
“Texas physicians congratulate Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) on his selection as minority whip in the U.S. Senate. Health care obviously will continue to sit atop the agenda throughout the coming congressional session. That’s why it is vitally important to have someone like Senator Cornyn — who has a long history of working closely with Texas physicians, who understands the immense challenges the practice of medicine faces, and who knows intimately Texas’ unique health care problems — in this important leadership position.”
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 46,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 120 component county medical societies around the state. TMA's key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans. TMA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the association and raises funds to support the public health and science priority initiatives of TMA and the family of medicine.
