Why You Should Be in Dallas This Week

You can get free continuing medical education (CME) and the latest clinical updates, have a chance to help set TMA policy on medicine's key issues, browse through a lively exhibit hall with some 100 exhibits, and network with colleagues, friends, and former medical school classmates from throughout Texas at TexMed 2012, Friday and Saturday, May 18-19, at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.

Ethical dilemmas you might face will be on the agenda at a special TMA Board of Councilors Medicine and Ethics Forum from 1 to 3:30 pm Friday in Lone Star A3 of the Sheraton. You'll hear expert panelists discuss ethical topics, including cherry-picking healthier patients to achieve higher physician rankings or reimbursements from health plans and employed physician concerns such as feeling pressured to comply with hospital or payer requirements that may interfere with a physician's responsibility to patients.

J. Clay Sawyer, MD, a member of the TMA Board of Councilors and a Waco psychiatrist, will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Board of Councilors Chair Jesse Moss Jr., MD; Robert Tenery, MD, former TMA president and chair of the American Medical Association Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs; Mari Robinson, executive director of the Texas Medical Board; and Charlotte Smith, MD, medical director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at University Medical Center Brackenridge-Seton.

You can earn 2.5 hours of ethics CME by attending the forum.
