Coming Soon to Medical School Near You!

POEP works to engage medical students in our mission by offering travel-related scholarships and an oncology-focused "Learn At Lunch" series.

As the US Preventative Task Force determined that even a 3 minute physician intervention on tobacco use can instigate a quit attempt, it is critical that tomorrow's physicians have the latest information on patient counseling and pharmacotherapies.

In 2009, our first year, the Learn At Lunch program reached 293 students at three medical school campuses (Texas Tech, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Texas A&M) with a 1 hour training on tobacco cessation.  Students at the respective campuses secured a lecture hall, handled program marketing, and collected evaluations.  POEP provided the speaker, handouts, and lunch at each school.

Each medical school in the pilot program was given a hotel reservation and mileage reimbursement to attend TMA's annual conference, TexMed.

Based off the success of the first year, POEP has targeted UTMB at Galveston, UT Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, UT Southwestern, and UTSA for fiscal year 2010.  We hope to visit all medical schools in Texas in 2011.  For more information, contact  Laura Wells .
