Physicians who filed claims against UnitedHealthcare in the lawsuit over its usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) claims payment system will soon receive payments. A federal judge has approved the release of payments from the 2009 settlement of the case. Physicians are expected to receive $200 million of the $250 million settlement fund. Payments to 1,427 Texas physicians will total $10.7 million.
The lawsuit alleged United used the UCR system to underpay physicians' claims for out-of-network services for 15 years.
Physicians who filed claims and have moved since filing should provide their updated mailing address as soon as possible to ensure the delivery of their checks. Contact the claims administrator (contact information below) if you filed directly or the Managed Care Advisory Group (MCAG), if you filed through MCAG (contact information below).
Most physicians will receive checks from the settlement administrator, Berdon Claims, LLC, or the Managed Care Advisory Group (MCAG) in the next couple of months.
If you filed a claim directly with Berdon but do not receive a check by April 15, contact Berdon by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, by phone at (800) 443-1073, or by fax at (516) 222-0271. If you filed a claim through MCAG and do not get a check by April 15, contact the MCAG by email at email@example.com or by phone at (800) 355-0466 (option 4).
