TMA Website Has Concussion Info

Information you need to help young athletes avoid serious and long-term head injuries under the state's new concussion management [PDF] law is posted on the TMA website.

Passed during the 2011 legislative session, the law outlines return-to-play guidelines for athletes suspected of sustaining a concussion. It requires school districts to establish concussion management teams that include a physician.

As Texas Medicine reported in September, TMA physicians advocated for the bill, which also emphasizes education for students and parents on concussion prevention, symptoms, and treatment, as well as training for concussion management team members. TMA also is involved in a stakeholder group to revise the concussion management guide for schools.
