Training in using the state's electronic death registration system is on the agenda for the 57th Annual Texas Vital Statistics Conference Dec. 7-9 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel. State law requires all physicians who file death certificates to use the electronic system or face a $500 fine from the Texas Medical Board (TMB).
The training will include how to sign up for the system, how physicians manage death records, and why physicians have to use the system. Numerous other vital statistics issues also are on the agenda.
TMB temporarily stopped fining physicians who do not use the system earlier this year after numerous physician complaints, but resumed disciplining doctors during the summer.
