Troy Alexander has rejoined the Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) legislative affairs staff, as associate director. Mr. Alexander returns to TMA, where he served as director of political education from 1999 to 2003.

After working at TMA, Mr. Alexander was a senior policy analyst for health and human services at the Texas House of Representatives. Since March of 2009 he served as director of the Texas Department of State Health Services’ Center for Program Coordination, Policy and Innovation.

“We are very excited to have Troy return to TMA,” said TMA Advocacy Vice President Darren Whitehurst. “He understands medicine’s issues, he has been involved in politics at the capitol, and he knows the doctors; we couldn’t have a better person join TMA’s team as we head into the session.”

Mr. Alexander graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1991 with a bachelor of arts degree in history, and a minor in government.

He will join TMA on Monday, Dec. 13.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing nearly 45,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 120 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
