OIG Starts Antifraud Training Program

The federal Office of Inspector General has developed a training program to help physicians avoid Medicare or Medicaid fraud and abuse.

The program, Roadmap for New Physicians: Avoiding Medicare and Medicaid Fraud and Abuse, summarizes the five main federal fraud and abuse laws – the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, the Exclusion Statute, and the Civil Monetary Penalties Law. It also provides tips on how physicians can comply with these laws in their relationships with payers, other physicians, vendors, hospitals, and nursing homes.

The information is valuable for physicians just starting their practices and as a refresher course for physicians who have been in practice awhile, the TMA payment advocacy staff says.
