When a patient asks to avoid a staff member, honor that request as long as it doesn't jeopardize the quality of patient care or the reasonable management of your office.
When a staff member asks to avoid a certain patient follow these steps:
Notify the appropriate member of your management team.
Put the details of the conflict in writing if management asks you to (but do not include this document in the patient's medical record).
Make all reasonable efforts to reduce the type and frequency of contact between the staff member and the patient.
Never accommodate a staff request of this nature at the expense of quality of care or reasonable management of your medical office.
