Q. How often should I update my medical office policy and procedure manual?
A. A policy and procedure manual is never set in stone. You should document policy changes as they occur throughout the year. Indicate the effective date of the change on the policy to avoid confusion. Distribute a copy of the change to all employees, and be sure to document in their personnel files that they've acknowledged receiving a copy.
The beginning of each year is a good time to review the manual to make sure it incorporates all the policy changes you issued during the year and is up to date.
